Homelessness Gateway Service

If you are homeless or at risk of being homeless, our Homelessness Gateway Service can help you.

The Homelessness Gateway Services is a 24/7 telephone service which can help you with support and access to emergency accommodation. We make sure everyone that contacts the service is assessed and referred to the right Homelessness Service.

We can support you in a number of ways, including:

  • sending referral and client information to the right agency, such as the specialist Gateways or longer term generic case management service providers
  • providing short term material assistance until you can be connected with the right service, including accommodation, food and other basic material needs, and transportation funding
  • helping you to link in with the right service, making sure that your immediate requirements will be met that day by that service, or that you get further support to meet basic needs, and
  • providing information, advocacy, emotional support, and facilitating contact between clients and agencies.

We provide a coordinated response to homelessness through collaboration with the other specialist Gateways, including Youth Gateway Service (YGS) and Domestic Violence and Aboriginal Family Violence Service (DV&AFVS), along with generic homelessness services.

The Homelessness Gateway Service also acts as the after-hours service for YGS and DV&AFVS outside of business hours (9am to 5pm).

Eligibility Criteria

Any person experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness is eligible for this service. During business hours (9am to 5pm) we focus on single adults or couples who are over 25 years of age and families who include at least one adult who is over the age of 25 years. Clients experiencing domestic violence or aboriginal family violence are assisted to contact the DV&AFVS. Clients (and families) whose oldest member is 24 or younger are assisted to contact the YGS.

This service is free of charge.
