When we collect your personal or sensitive information you have a right to:

• know why your personal or sensitive information is being collected, how it will be used and who it will be disclosed to  

• have the option of not being identified as individuals in certain circumstances  

• ask for access to your personal or sensitive information (including health information), and to have your information corrected or deleted 

• opt-out of receiving unwanted direct marketing  

• be able to make a complaint if you consider your personal or sensitive information has been mishandled at an individual level or is subject to a systems data breach (you will be notified by us if a notifiable data breach occurs) 

• have your personal or sensitive information disposed of securely or de-identified when it is no longer useful to meet the primary purpose for which it was collected. 

Uniting Communities is committed to meeting our legal obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the accompanying Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). We will always seek your informed consent to collect, use or disclose your personal or sensitive information. Your information will only ever be shared without your consent where we think it is reasonably necessary to prevent harm or respond to serious risks to health or safety, for enforcement purposes or when required or authorised by law.  

Uniting Communities complies with the SA Government's  Information sharing guidelines for promoting safety and wellbeing (ISG) when there is a need to share information to prevent harm or respond to serious threats to individual or public health and safety.

In cases where an eligible data breach occurs, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if your personal or sensitive information is lost, subject to unauthorised access or disclosure and is subject to the Notifiable Data Breach scheme.
