The Habitat is an open space where people from all walks of life are welcome. We believe that everyone in the community has something to learn, as well as something to contribute. With that in mind, the Habitat was opened with the vision of being a volunteer-run hub of knowledge and skill-sharing, where grassroots projects can be established, new skills learned and valuable relationships built.
The cornerstone of our vision is to create a collaborative space where community members can come to learn, teach or mentor – to share time with one another while developing their skills and giving something back. We welcome all volunteers, whatever your skills, knowledge or ideas.Read More
Currently operating out of the Habitat is the Help Mend the Cycle project, restoring abandoned bikes so they can be donated to people who are less fortunate. This project is run by volunteers and funded by donations. The Habitat provides the space for the team to operate their workshop. Grassroots projects such as this are what the Habitat is all about: a space for community engagement and contribution.
We have space available for other groups to establish their own initiatives within the Habitat. So if you have an idea for a community project, class, workshop or start-up and need a space to begin, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch to tell us about your idea and we’ll see how we can help.
Help Mend the Cycle
This initiative was started by a Uniting Communities client to restore and donate old bikes. Current and former clients can volunteer to work on the donated bikes, giving some structure to their week, the chance for social interaction and the opportunity to learn new skills.
