We offer a range of options to support you if you would like to make long-term, sustainable changes to your use of alcohol and other drugs. Uniting Communities been supporting people with issues related to drugs and alcohol since the 1930s. Currently, New ROADS supports more than 1000 people every year.
New ROADS services
New ROADS (Residential and Out-Client Alcohol and Drug Service) offers a range of services, including residential rehabilitation and counselling.
Treatment options are designed to assist with your physical and mental health, as well as your connections to the community through various activities. Our services can support families and individuals, including ex-servicepeople.
We run regular information sessions where you can find out more about these programs:

- Northern Connect program: 2b Morialta Drive, Smithfield
- New ROADS/Streetlink southern drop-in: 107 Dyson Rd, Christies Beach

In addition, our counsellors can support you with issues such as stable housing; legal matters; financial/debt problems; education, volunteering and employment; family issues and relationships; and connecting to other relevant services.
> Residential Program
This is a community-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation program in the metropolitan area for adults aged 21 and over.

Residents live in shared houses as they work on their personalised treatment plans, and receive a full therapeutic group program and individual counselling weekly. The program is based on a 5-month stay, but this is flexible.
Most people undergo a medically assisted detox before entering the residential program, but this is not always necessary.
There is no wait list or a need to make twice-weekly phone calls – if the residential program is full we can offer group support and counselling through the JumpStart program until a place becomes available.
New ROADS aims to make accessing the program as easy as possible. Referrals can be made by yourself, your family, your case worker, or anyone else. Alternatively, you are welcome to simply attend one of the information sessions.

> Counselling
Counselling is for people – and their families and/or support people – who are experiencing problems with alcohol or other drugs. Services are available in the city, Smithfield and Christies Beach.

The Residential Family Program offers accommodation in either the southern or northern suburbs of Adelaide. The program is based on a 5-month stay, but this is flexible. You can work on your individual treatment plans, as well as attend a full therapeutic group program and weekly individual counselling.

Supporting your children’s needs
Our counsellors work with you to connect your children with education and any other relevant activities that support your relationship and the child’s development.

This 12-week program of intensive drug and alcohol treatment provides the structure of residential treatment, but for those who have their own accommodation.

If you are having problems with substance misuse or your mental health, the Northern Connect Service may be able to support you to treat both issues at the same time.

We offer innovative and responsive treatment for people aged 15 years and over, who are based in the northern metropolitan Adelaide region.
Support is tailored to you and delivered by specialists to make sure you can access the right treatment to meet your needs.
We offer weekly information sessions at our Smithfield office on Thursdays at 1pm at 2b Morialta Drive, Smithfield. You are welcome to bring support people with you to the session.
This service is offered in partnership with Northern Health Network and Life Without Barriers, and is funded through the Adelaide Primary Health Network.

We can provide comprehensive treatment for ex-serving members, including:
- assessment
- counselling (for individuals, families and groups)
- JumpStart
- residential treatment
- case management
- follow-up support.
You can be referred by your GP, hospital staff, a mental health professional registered under Medicare, or the Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS). You are welcome to attend one of the information sessions for more details.

The drop-in service provides a range of drug and alcohol treatment services from our office at Christies Beach, with information sessions held twice a week.

Streetlink Youth Health Service
This free and confidential youth health service provides a safe place if you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. If you are aged between 12 and 25, Streetlink can offer information and support, connection to services, or just a chat with someone who cares.

You can visit Streetlink for help with a range of medical needs including:
- sexual, mental and general health
- immunisations
- wound care
- nutrition
- referrals
- child development and health checks
- community programs
- care for women who are pregnant or have a new baby (antenatal and postnatal care).
We can also support you if your alcohol or drug use, or that of another person, is negatively affecting you. We offer assessment, counselling and support in the metropolitan area, as well as a Clean Needle Program and Police Drug Diversion Initiative.
We have a mental health worker available if you use alcohol or other drugs and also experience problems with your mental health. This is available in the northern and southern suburbs, and the city.
Streetlink offers group work and activities to help you develop skills and confidence, and connect you to the wider community. These can focus on alcohol or drug use, living skills, health and wellbeing, parenting or creative and artistic groups.
Streetlink has a number of visiting services including:
- legal services (by appointment)
- dental screening (monthly)
- mental health workers (by appointment)
- clean needle program (CNP) peer educators that facilitate the program (Mondays)
- food from OZ Harvest (Tuesdays)
- youth workers.
Clean Needle Program
This program aims to reduce the spread of blood-borne infections such as HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C among people who inject drugs and the general community.

People can access free needles and syringes, alcohol swabs and sharps disposal containers. We can also offer education on drug treatment, support services, safer injecting and blood-borne infections.
This service operates from the city, Smithfield and Mt Gambier from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
Police Drug Diversion Initiative
This program is designed to support people with education and treatment services if they have been involved with the police for simple possession of illicit drugs or equipment. We aim to provide support as an alternative to the criminal justice system.

You can access information and education about drug use through this service. It’s about developing new approaches for people to access drug assessment, education and treatment services.
The Drug Diversion Line (DDL) can make referrals at any time, 24/7, and coordinates police referrals with scheduled appointments for treatments.
The Initiative aims to:
- intervene early to address drug use
- diverted more people into drug education, assessment and treatment
- work with people who can be difficult to reach for drug assessment and treatment
- reduce the number of people appearing before the courts for drug-related offending.
