History

Uniting Communities has served the South Australian community for more than 120 years.

People have always been at the heart of our work, from our beginnings as the Central Methodist Mission in 1901.

Our rich history

Our rich history dates back even further to 1864, the year that the Maughan Church was built on the corner of Franklin and Pitt Streets in the Adelaide CBD. Through the merging of various agencies of the Uniting Church in SA since then, we have grown into one of the state’s leading providers of community services.

Today, we proudly support more than 80,000 people each year from all over South Australia.

Our Purpose

For more than 120 years, we have created positive change for South Australian communities.

We help those in need find the courage to move forward through enriching their lives and uniting the communities in which they live. By tackling the deep-seated challenges that affect people’s lives, we are working to create systemic change and brighter futures for all South Australians.

Building upon the foundations of our past, we're taking bold steps into the future through innovation, social responsibility and sustainability.
