Taking action for the climate and biodiversity

03/03/22

Uniting Communities have joined a large group of SA businesses, organisations and leaders to call on the next South Australian government to take strong action on climate change.

With strong state leadership, SA can improve our climate future and build the new economy powered by clean energy. With effective, clear policy support and private sector innovation, net zero emissions is within reach. So too is preservation and restoration of our threatened ecosystems. We need the Government to lead with a far-sighted strategy.

We know there is already strong support for climate action across the South Australian community and we urge others to set their own carbon reduction goals with ambitious targets to become carbon neutral, well before 2050. Our own pledge to become a net zero organisation by 2035 demonstrates our long-standing commitment to addressing the effects of climate change, particularly in support of the vulnerable and disadvantaged people and communities we serve. South Australia has a lot to gain by taking action now, and we are well-placed to improve our climate future and build a new economy powered by clean energy.

The South Australians for Climate Action 2022 Statement highlights just how much SA has to gain by responding positively and forcefully to the changing climate. Endorsing this statement is a way to make our support for climate action visible to those in government making critical decisions. We can build on the bipartisan leadership our State has already exhibited on climate and energy policy. We have a lot to gain, and the time is now.
