Cosy craft sale brings comfort to people in need

21/05/24

If autumn evokes images of knitted socks, warm cups of tea, and crafternoons with friends – you might just be an honorary member of Uniting Communities’ Cosy Club!

Cosy Club is a small monthly gathering held at U City, where people aged 65+ gather to knit, talk and make a difference.

With support from Uniting Communities, Cosy Club donates hand-crafted items for free to organisations helping people in need of comfort and care. The group members also put together pamper packs for newcomers moving into Uniting Communities’ Aged Care homes – Murray Mudge and Aldersgate.

UC staff member, Emmy De Lorenzo, who helps coordinate the group says:

“These packs mean a lot because they help people feel welcome and comforted at a time of uncertainty and change.”

Cosy Club founder, June Appleby, says:

“A knitted rug or pair of socks represents comfort and care because it means that someone has spent time and effort, put in the love and talent to create something personal for you.”

“More than that, our members get the opportunity to feel involved, to contribute to the community, and play an important part in supporting people in need. Establishing social connections – especially for women over a certain age – is vital.”

You can support the Cosy Club and the heartwarming work they do by purchasing items at their upcoming fundraising sale. Expect everything from socks and scarfs, to baby clothes, blankets and beanies – all lovingly handcrafted for a wonderful cause.

All proceeds from the sale of their products are invested in purchasing craft supplies to make welcome packs and much-needed items for people doing it tough.

Don't miss the sale!
