Cyber incident update

03/09/21

Uniting Communities has been impacted by a cyber incident that has restricted access to some of our technology systems. See below for the latest updates.

UPDATE 3 SEPTEMBER

Uniting Communities, in conjunction with external cyber security experts, has made significant progress in the safe and secure restoration of our systems following the recent cyber incident we experienced in June.

Throughout this period, we have ensured the ongoing delivery of client services and are pleased to have minimised disruption to our clients, customers and residents.

We have now concluded an extensive forensic investigation of our systems to assess the risk of unauthorised access to private data. The protection of individual’s privacy has been of utmost importance throughout the investigation, and we are pleased that there is no evidence that the safety of our clients, customers, residents, or staff has been compromised as a result of this cyber incident.

In response to the incident, we have introduced improved security controls, including specialist support to monitor, detect and respond to suspicious activity before a successful attack can be launched, and we are confident that this, and additional security measures that will be implemented over time, will greatly reduce the risk of future attacks.

We are grateful for the understanding and patience shown by our clients, customers, funders and supporters during the period of disruption to our organisation, and also extend our sincere thanks to our Uniting Communities team for their continued commitment to supporting our community under challenging circumstances.

We now move forward with confidence in the enhanced security of our systems and in the increased levels of protection of our information.
