Empathy & kindness -
when motivation meets passion in Aged Care.

29/11/22

Empathy and kindness may be two of the most pivotal traits to possess when working in aged care.

Malgorzata (Margaret) Rzadkowski, has this at the forefront of her Home & Community carers role with Uniting Communities. Margaret has recently obtained her qualification of Certificate III in Individual Support. Her traineeship started in June, and she completed it within five months. Her manager Ruth Pares, encouraged her to get her qualification as she could see how motivated she was and wanted to support Margaret to get the most out of her role and support her professional growth.

“People come from different backgrounds, personal experience, and have unique skillsets, we want to harness this and foster people’s motivation when we see drive in them to progress professionally”, Ruth says.

Margaret never thought at her age she would be going back to studies but found something she is passionate about.

“Older employees have more experience in life, we are more understanding about how our customers are feeling”, she said.

Ruth says that “Margaret completed her studies in record time and received lots of positive feedback highlighting that she was well engaged and was an outstanding student, hardworking and most importantly she was kind and empathetic.

Margaret, as many of our Aged Care staff, experiences the personal satisfaction of knowing that her work contributes in making a genuine difference in older people’s lives and this is why Margaret has excelled in her aged care career”.

Uniting Communities is committed to building the capacity of our staff to deliver high quality services to the community. We support staff to have a meaningful career, that enhances skillsets, encapsulates interests, personality traits, and is an alignment of values.
