Associate Professor Michelle Lim joins WHO Commission on Social Connection Technical Advisory Group

 

In November 2023, the World Health Organisation established the Commission on Social Connection, which aims to position social connection as a global public health priority and to scale up cost-effective solutions to address loneliness and social isolation.

CEO of Ending Loneliness Together, Associate Professor Michelle Lim, has been appointed to join twenty experts across the globe on the Technical Advisory Group for the new Commission.

“Loneliness isn’t an issue only faced by Australia, it’s a global issue that must be addressed as a collective” – says Michelle Lim.

New research to help combat loneliness and social isolation

 

Mind Australia and Monash University are part of a group of organisations researching strategies for how to reduce loneliness and social isolation for people who experience chronic disease.

Mind Research and Evaluation Manager Dr Laura Hayes says the project will help develop a map that shows the most pressing areas of need, a registry of support services and potential target markets for service planners.

International Loneliness Awareness Week: June 10 – 16 (UK)

 

Created and hosted by Marmalade Trust, the annual campaign raises awareness of loneliness across the UK (and beyond!).

The campaign encourages everyone to make connections and gets people talking about it.

Campaign to End Loneliness to continue (UK)

 

Last year, the organisation announced the news that the Campaign to End Loneliness and its host organisation, the What Works Centre for Wellbeing, would close on Tuesday 30 April 2024.

The Centre for Loneliness Studies at Sheffield Hallam University will now host and maintain the Campaign website and assets from 1 May 2024 onwards, ensuring this collective knowledge they have built over the years will remain freely available and easily accessible for years to come.

Commit to Connect Conference

 

Join Commit to Connect and engAGED at their annual National Summit to Increase Social Connections.

The virtual conference will take place on May 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM ET and May 15 from 1:00 to 3:30 PM ET.

This year, speakers and attendees will explore how to leverage technology to advance social connections for older adults and people with disabilities.  

The summit will bring together local, state, and national leaders from across sectors working to address social isolation and loneliness.  

The conference is free and open to the public but registration is essential.
