Family mediation after separation

Separation can feel overwhelming. Our experienced Family Advisors and Mediators are here to help you move forward with clarity and confidence, to help you reach practical agreements about parenting and property.

Supporting you at every step

When a relationship ends, there’s often a lot to work through – especially when children or shared assets are involved.

Family mediation, also known as Family Dispute Resolution (FDR), provides a safe, confidential and structured space for you and your former partner to make decisions together. Our focus is always on practical outcomes and the wellbeing of children.

You don’t need to navigate this alone. Our team will guide you every step of the way.

What is Family Mediation?

Family mediation is a supported conversation between you and your former partner, facilitated by a qualified and impartial mediator.

Our Family Advisors and Mediators are highly trained professionals with extensive experience supporting families through separation.

Funded through the Attorney General's Department, the Noarlunga Family Relationship Centre is committed to making professional mediation accessible to all. Our services are are low-cost or no-cost for many families.

We understand that attending in person isn’t always possible. Sessions can be in person, online, or in separate rooms. Distance, work commitments or safety concerns don’t have to be barriers to getting support.

Our Mediation Services

We offer a range of professional Family Dispute Resolution services tailored to your circumstances. Mediation can help you with:

  • Children’s care arrangements
Support to resolve issues and develop future parenting plans that focus on the needs of your children.

  • Property mediation
Assistance to reach fair agreements about property and financial matters. You do not need to have children to access property mediation.

  • Legally assisted mediation
Mediation where lawyers are involved to support clearer, legally informed agreements.

  • Child-inclusive mediation
A specialised process that considers children’s experiences and perspectives in a safe and appropriate way.

We can also provide information and referrals that suit your family’s individual circumstances. Conversations in mediation are confidential and, in most circumstances, cannot be used in court.

Is Mediation Right for You?

Mediation may be suitable if you want to:

  • make parenting arrangements without going to court

  • resolve property matters cooperatively

  • reduce conflict

  • create practical, workable agreements.

If mediation is not appropriate in your situation, we can discuss alternative options and referrals.
