What is GRIT?
GRIT is a safe, therapeutic service where young people can reflect, connect, and make sense of their experiences without shame or stigma, and begin to develop positive pathways forward. Rather than focusing on punishment or labels, GRIT acknowledges that emotions and behaviours are shaped by past experiences, relationships, and environmental factors.
Participation is voluntary, ensuring that young people engage on their own terms.
GRIT is located at the Uniting Communities building at 26 Anderson Walk Smithfield; however, counselling sessions can also be delivered in an outreach capacity, meeting young people in community settings such as schools, hubs or centres when needed.
GRIT offers 12 therapeutic counselling sessions that provide a safe and supportive space for young people to talk, reflect, and work through their experiences.
Our Focus
GRIT helps young people navigate challenges related to family and relationships, including those who have experienced or engaged in violence.
GRIT supports the development of healthier ways to express emotions, build respectful relationships, and manage family difficulties.
Through one-to-one counselling, and pro-social activities, GRIT encourages positive engagement and connection with the community.
Our focus includes:
Understanding emotions and stress
Building respectful and safe relationships
