Services for women experiencing violence or feeling controlled

Domestic and family violence has a lasting effect. Violence is not okay and it is never your fault.

Program Overview

If you or your children experience any form of abuse, we’re here to support you. Our experienced counsellors can help you with past experiences or if you are living with violence now.

Signs you might be in a violent or controlling relationship

  • Do you feel safe in your current relationship?

  • Do you feel that you have limited freedom or control over your life?

  • Are you concerned about the effects of violence and abuse on your children?

  • Does your partner try to stop you from seeing family and friends?

Counselling options to suit you and your family

Our counselling services are for anybody who is experiencing abuse. All sexualities, gender identities, ages and people from diverse family and cultural backgrounds are welcome. We can provide interpreter and translation services if needed.

We will talk through your options and support you as you make decisions about the best way forward. Our counselling services are safe, confidential and respectful.

Individual counselling

During your session our counsellors focus on your personal situation and concerns. They will support you to make decisions that are best for you, your children and your loved ones.

Support groups

Groups offer women the chance to realise they are not alone and look at the effects of violence and abuse on their lives. It is a space for you to share ideas about regaining your confidence and sense of identity.

There is no pressure to share your story. However, women who have taken part found it useful to hear other stories in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Support groups are free and held monthly in our city office.

Counselling for children and young people

We offer counselling to children and young people who are experiencing effects of trauma or violence. Depending on each child’s situation, this may include individual counselling, family counselling with parents/carers, and group work.

Your child or children’s safety and wellbeing will always be our priority, even if they are not receiving our services directly.

Joint counselling

We provide support for women who would like to attend counselling with their partner, including people in same-sex relationships.

Where violence or abuse is still happening within the relationship, we encourage you and your partner to have separate sessions to begin with.

Partner Contact Program

This is offered to women whose male partner or ex-partner is working with us regarding his use of violence or abuse.

We provide women with support and information through individual counselling, support groups, telephone contact and/or text messaging. This helps ensure that your experiences are central to the work we’re doing with your partner and that they remain accountable for their choices.

The program is available to people in same-sex relationships, and to men whose partners or ex-partners are working with us about their use of violence or abuse.

Services for men

Support is available for men seeking to change their use of violent or aggressive behaviours. We offer individual counselling and a group program to help find ways to build healthier relationships and improve family life.
